Members share innovative mechanisms, instruments and programmes that improve women’s access to climate funds, from community level initiatives to global facilities, and jointly develop guidance for scaling up good practices across Africa and other regions.
Gender in Intergovernmental Climate Processes: From Africa Climate Week to COP30
This Community of Practice supports ECOWAS stakeholders to engage effectively in intergovernmental climate processes, including the UNFCCC Gender Action Plan (GAP). Members exchange experiences from Africa Climate Week and the road to COP30, share tools for integrating gender into NDCs and negotiations, and coordinate advocacy for stronger gender‑responsive climate governance.
Care–Climate Nexus: Gender, Care Economy and Climate Action in West and Central Africa
This Community of Practice explores how climate change exacerbates unpaid and paid care work, and how care‑responsive policies can strengthen resilience. Members highlight best practices from West and Central Africa, including social protection, climate‑smart public services and community initiatives that redistribute, reduce and recognise women’s care responsibilities.

Gender and Green Jobs: Women’s Opportunities in Emerging Green Sectors in West Africa
This Community of Practice focuses on advancing women’s access to decent work and entrepreneurship in the green economy of the ECOWAS region. Members exchange evidence, policies and programmes on women’s participation in renewable energy, climate‑smart agriculture, circular economy, sustainable transport and other green sectors, and identify pathways to close gender gaps in skills, finance and innovation.
Gender and Climate Justice: Advocacy Priorities for a Just Transition
This Community of Practice brings together advocates from ECOWAS Member States to advance gender‑responsive climate justice and a just transition. Members identify key advocacy priorities, analyse policies and financing decisions, and coordinate regional positions to ensure that climate action addresses inequalities, protects rights and delivers fair outcomes for women and marginalised groups.
