The vice-president Damtien L. Tchintchibidja, pays working visit to the ECOWAS Gender Development Centre (EGDC) in Dakar, Senegal

On the sidelines of her high-level information mission on the establishment of Senegal’s National Early Warning and Response Centre, the Vice-President of the ECOWAS Commission, H.E. Mrs. Damtien L. Tchintchibidja, paid a courtesy visit on 30 October 2025 to the ECOWAS Centre for Gender Development (CCDG) in Dakar.

Welcomed by Mrs. Sandra Oulaté Fattoh, Director of the CCDG, the Vice-President was briefed on the main challenges currently facing the Centre. The Director provided a detailed overview, highlighting two major concerns: the structural shortage of human resources and the insufficiency of the budgetary allocation required for the effective implementation of the Centre’s projects and programmes.

In response, the Vice-President expressed her support for the Centre and recommended that an official request be submitted to her Office to activate the recruitment process, particularly for the position of Accounting Assistant. She also stressed the need to align human resource deployment with the specific needs of each unit within the Dakar pooling structure, with a view to improving the Centre’s performance and responsiveness.

Addressing programme-related matters and the promotion of gender equality, the Vice-President reaffirmed the strategic importance of elevating the role of women within the ECOWAS region. She advocated for a collaborative approach between men and women in order to create an enabling environment for the empowerment of women and girls. Finally, she encouraged the proactive use of the ECOWAS institutional platform as a lever for social transformation, to enhance the impact of initiatives promoting equality, social justice, and sustainable human development across the region.
